About Jan Johnson

Jan Johnson, a 5th generation "BOI," is a freelance writer and step-on tour guide with over 25 years experience. Born with a passion for her city's history, she will delight and entertain your group as she accurately informs about historical Galveston Island, from its beginnings with Cabeza de Vaca to its decadence in the 1890's and downfall during the 1900 Storm through its "wide-open" gambling days that ended dramatically in 1957 to its cutting-edge beginnings of historical preservation in the mid-1960's.

This "Jan of All trades, Master of One" (Master of Art in Literature, University of Houston, Clear Lake, 1995) customizes all her tours according to the client's specific needs and interests, even flexible enough to modify the itinerary that day.   She is the first and only Galveston tour guide who specializes in the Island's many historic churches. You pick the churches; she'll set them up, then lead the way.

Planning a conference, meeting or family reunion on Galveston Island?  Jan Johnson can serve as your INDEPENDENT connection to the best the city has to offer.  Why book all your events in one place when this knowledgeable and objective insider can lead you to such out-of-the-way, picturesque venues like bed-&-breakfasts, upscale restaurants and casual eateries, all house museums, city parks, dockside dining and theatres.

Even the staff of the Galveston Island Convention and Visitors Bureau acknowledge her as "Galveston's best loved tour guide," as well as a walking encyclopedia of the Island's history!  Look for her book based on her driving tours Fall, 2008:  "Walking Historic Galveston:  A Guide to its Neighborhoods."

A direct descendant of two 1900 Storm survivors, Jan Johnson IS Galveston's heritage.
