  Whew I finally made it back. I had to change the letters of my name up a tad to be able to log in. Well I see galveston is in a heck of a mess. Sure hope everyone is doing well.

Hey, Gena, yes, long time no hear from.  Glad you made it back to us.  It is such a shame about Galveston.  I am just heartsick about what happened.  This ranked right  up there with the storm of 1900, but hopefully not as much loss of life. 

Good to  hear from you again........we might be one of the few left.  I hope people start checking in when they can.

Yeah, watching the videos and pics are addicting, but after a little while, it starts making me heartsick and nauseated....i was there last in april... made a quick trip almost went to the beach labor day....had i known,.....

 Well yesssssssssss it's me I had to change the letters in my name because it wouldnt let me log in but yea it's me and I'm glad to be back. We are finally settled into our house...thank god and I dont plan to move anymore for a very long time.

[:'(] Yes it is VERY heart breaking to look at the pictures and videos of what has happened to one of my favorite places. UGH! I just love Galveston but they rebuilt before and it will happen once again in time. And I WILL one day be back to Galveston. It's just unbelieveable!!

Hi ya'll. We are safe and sound in Sugar Land with power, internet & cable. We are very blessed but distressed about all of the damage from Ike. I did get some great news...our house on Tiki was shown on pics that were posted on www.guidrynews.com and all looks a-okay. So, that means that when they let us back, you can be sure that I will be doing my part to help my Galveston neighbors.  Hugs-  Erin

I just wonder if the population will be smaller on the island now due to people going to the mainland and staying. Like W.L. Moody Sr. said in 1900 "If they do abandon the city,remember:the fewer the people the better the fishing." Just gotta wonder

Glad to see you are back with us again.  Yep, you can believe I'm happy to have received so little damage to my fortress here.  Didn't even lose a shingle, although houses all around me did shed them like crazy.  Well built houses here really had no problems with the wind.  My house is built to withstand 130 mph winds, and I had the windows boarded up, so I could have stayed put.   But, the storm surge predictions were too dire, and a well build house ain't much comfort if it's flooded to the roof.   None of it will change my plans for future storms of it's kind.  I will always board up and leave, and try to do it while everybody else scratches their heads and worries about staying put to protect their "stuff".  

I am getting a little tired of hunkering down and riding out the winds however.  This will be my third one.  Carla, Alicia, and now Ike.    I think I will start running even more quickly the next time, and try to make it more of a long distance run.   I know it's coming out at one blow every twenty fiive years, and maybe (probably) I'll be gone on to a place a long way from this earth in twenty five years, but I'm revising my escape plans just the same.

 About the same as yours is mccool....back pedalling faster than anything i have ever seen... it was gonna be a hard sell anyway, and i think this pretty much finished it for now...nah, dont think too many will leave....and he was right about the fishing....me, i wanna buy a lot and build a concrete bunker house like that guy did in florida years ago, and it survived a major hurricane with only water damage on the ground level... wannna go halfsies with me? have solar panel battery/energy so not dependent on electricity... have our own water source rainwater in a barrel or a cistern Is that it?  and with solar power to use the pump, we would be ok....

Oh great.  I had no fear that Chevy would do anything dumb, but I hadn't seen anything from him.  Guess I missed that.  And as for Catherine the Great, I don't see her highness doing anything foolhardy either, but I was just wondering if anybody had heard from her.  Hope her house made it okay.  All the info coming out seems to indicate that most who lived behind the seawall may not have fared all that badly, relatively speaking of course.   Chevy doesn't live all that far from Dixie, and I know that Dixie's living quarters on the second floor were okay, although the garage did flood to a depth of ten feet.   I dunno what the situation is with Chevy's house insofar as elevation goes however.

Lurker ended up going to Austin and thence to New Braufels I think.  I don't think he has internet access.  Still haven't heard from Cat or Chevy.  Do you know if Chevy's living quarters were on the second floor like yours, Dixie? Hope so.

Lynnie no I didnt wait for IKE to come through then decide to get back on the forums. I have been extremely busy and now that IKE had came through that area I had to "make" time and check on my forum friends.

 Well...lookie, cookie. Dixie is back online... Shawi went to Deer Park to stay with his parents (I think). They are prolly still outta power. I'm just glad your bro let that cat out! The nights are beautiful with the full moon and I bet are really pretty on the beach.

YES THANK GOD , I spent 2 hours looking for wifi coffee shop , when I found this freaky Russian coffee shop.... 1st thing I did when I got home was check internet... and there it was WAHOO

Yes, Deer Park got some flooding, but it depends on just where he was in Deer Park as to how much he got, if any.  Power outage is making it hard to find out where people are right now, but I'm gonna bet that Shawi got out of harms way.  However, it's hard to guess where he might have landed if he did have to leave.

What about GALTEXBOI ? has she posted since the storm? I think she has another home in Kingwood , I hope she took her family and pets and went there
