Don't hold your breath on the shirt, the owners of Mod have decided to sell the business instead of rebuilding.

What about Nic Noblique's art studio?  I dont think I have seen any posts about him at all, but then again, i am memory impaired at this moment...hahhaha

I saw some of Nic's work at the Biker Rally-or was it at Dicken's.  But it is safe to assume that his studio was flooded.

I had no doubt that his studio was flooded....just hadnt seen any posts or info in the gal.daily news about his business...most of the ones i follow have declared the intent to rebuild or not..just being nosy haha

thanks for the info mojo....Big Smile

No coffee house on the island? That really sucks.

I'd snatch that thing up if I could.  Galveston needs a coffee house amongst the art stores and book shops.  Dixie, maybe this is you & Vic's new adventure?

I always felt that MOD was the glue that held that area together!

Mod is great and will come back eventually-with new owners, I heard.

BUT, 69-in my neighborhood, as well as yours:  It is the people that are the glue.

"BUT, 69-in my neighborhood, as well as yours:  It is the people that are the glue."

I agree. Galveston is all about the people. My first day on the Island after Ike, some guy I never saw before walked down my street and offered to lend my his generator. On this site everyone was concerned for those who were unaccounted for immediately after landfall etc.

Back to Downtown. The Biz Buzz in the GDN stated yesterday that Bass, Van Hussen, and IZOD would all be back. NY Dress was not planning to return at this time.

Everything that happens will happen today.

"No coffee house on the island? That really sucks"

I was disappointed when the GDN did their "100 Things to Love about Galveston" and Starbuck's got mentioned but not MOD.

This, I don't understand. How can MOD or Java 123 not be mentioned?

I guess that since neither exists, there is no chance to get them to advertize in thr paper.

Thanks Everyone.. Thats too bad about them closing.. if I knew anything about Coffee I would see about buying it. Your right the Island does in fact need a coffee house aka a Cafe.

God Speed to Galveston, A place I'll always cherish.. Good luck to everyone, including Dixie.. for some odd reason thinks I dont like her.

Now that Sky Bar is opened, word on the street is that they will next concentrate on Saltwater Grill.

Rudy and Paco's is coming along well.  Paco experianced a setback when it was found that we had the wrong thickness of sheetrock, and had to tear it out and rebuild (again)-gotta love the city!

    Molly's is close-coming along briskly.

No new activity seen at Mod

Gold Star seems to be gone for good Sad  Pete will be missed around here.

The Photographer has reopened, and the art Galleries on the south side of Post Office-between 20-21 are coming close to opening.

Word on the street has Apache, on 22nd coming back.

Mojo, thanks so much for your updates.  I need things to tell perspective guests when they call!

Can you imagine how frustrating the sheetrock debacle would have been?  Oh man, I would have been mad! My head would have flown right off my shoulders!  That poor man...

Yea, you need 5/8 sheetrock for commercial buildings as that is the fire code everywhere.

Glad to see Mollys is about to reopen, sure am missing that white cheese pizza!

    Busy with house and work.

Just had a new roof put on along with leveling the house and replacing all the wood with Hardy Board.

Will finish caulking it all up today and be ready to paint as I took off my second job to get it done.

Wife is deciding on what colors to use with the Estate Gray shingles and reddish brick.

All this has even kept me out of the gym. Going back in today no matter what! Big Smile

Did we lose any of the art galleries? I seem to recall reading somewhere that a lot of them were gone for good. Like a whole block wasn't coming back.

Only just peeked at this thread, but I work at Vic's Jewelry on Market and they have been open since Thanksgiving... of course, we  had to quickly replace shattered displays and are still bidding out to re-sheetrock our walls, but we are open.

I heard that MIlton who owns the building that houses Eat Cetera, and once housed Jubilee will be having some sort of "Art Walk" this Saturday. He always displayed some cool stuff in a small gallery in the back of Jubilee. Location 24th @ Market.

Everything that happens will happen today.
