Just back from 2 weeks of vacation in Reno/Tahoe.  I visited the forum several times while I was there - South Lake Tahoe and Galveston have the same feel for me.  I drive into either of them and feel as if I've come home.

We're planning to be in Galveston October 15-19 if all goes well.  I can hardly wait!

    Hey suejm,

How is Tahoe in September? I have been skiing there almost every winter for about 15 years, but I have never been there in the summer.

Everything that happens will happen today.

Wow, Mojo, that's a great looking set of wheels! Hard to imagine that it's actually a 2000 model. Can't believe it's so clean.  Looks like it's been mostly garaged for the past nine years.  So, there really are cream puffs out there that have been driven only by a ittle old lady! Congratulations. Thanks Ya'll!  I had one exactly like it and was forced to trade it in.  The car had since haunted me and I had to get another-it just gets into your blood.  BMW only produced 15000 of the m series z3 in the years that they were manufactured, so folks did tend to mothball them.  And, it is just not a practical everyday car.

A giggle.  When I called my daughter in Austin to tell her that I finally found one just exactly like my old one, she asked me for a photo so that she could see how it looks.  I told her to just shut her eyes and remember the last one.Huh?

Anywho, if anyone sees me toolin around this week, you may want to give me some space and keep a good sense of humor, as I am having to relearn how to drive a stick (gee what is that funny smell-like clutch? Naw)

August and September are the warmest months, warm enough to swim in the afternoon and to hike with only a light jacket.  The negative is that water flows are usually low and there are fewer waterfalls to admire on our hikes, and the Truckee is often too low to tube.  We like to swim in the lake and play in the Truckee River park in Reno, so warm is important.  We also enjoy Harvey's outdoor concerts in S. Tahoe, for free, from the balcony of our motel across the street.  This is our seventh summer in Tahoe, and we still haven't had enough.

We've been in June, July, August, September, and October.  Thinking about going again Thanksgiving, as we've never been there in the winter and would like to play in the snow.

MOJO-Awesome car! Nothing better then cruising the Island in a ragtop!

suejm-Thanks for the summer Tahoe report. I think what I always liked best about Tahoe is it is a beach town with ski runs. The best of both worlds! Every ski trip we talk about coming back in the summer just to see what it is like. Since I usually only get to ski one week a year I tend to go everyday and really haven't gotten to know the area except for the slopes.

Snow can be spotty in November.

Everything that happens will happen today.

Chevy, we don't ski, so we do everything else.  My husband's a mountain guy and I'm a beach girl, so it fits us perfectly.  We go often enough and stay long enough to feel at home - kind of like Galveston.

I am now to this...can't figure out how to post a subject.

Anyway....I'll be visiting with my husband and 2 other couples from Northerm MN the week of December 6th.  Anything we should know about what to do? see? where to eat?  The Festival of Lights sounds like a good time.

Good source of ideas of what to do is right here on the Galveston.com main website.  Click on the "What to do" tab at the top of the page.  It's all kind of subjective I guess, so it depends on what your group likes to do.

(If you want to start a new thread on any subject, click on the "Forums" tab, choose the section you want to use, and you will see a button titled "Write a new post")

    Welcome to the forum.

Yeah, you're right, Dixie; I had forgotten about our buddy Bottlerocket's list.  I guess it needs a bit of editing since Ike, since a few of the pre-Ike venues are no longer with us, and there could be some additions that come to mind now, but it still is pretty comprehensive and has a lot of very good tips.
