Two days of rain have brought 2.20 inches of rain to Galveston Island with a chance for more rain today as warm, moist air aloft overrides cooler air at the surface. A big change is in the weather, however, for this weekend and for all of next week as we shift into a noticeably cooler and drier weather pattern.
A strong cold front is due to reach the coast by late Friday or early Saturday, bringing strong winds (gusting to gale force levels) and much cooler temperatures. The Island could see low temperatures in the 40's by early Sunday. Although there may be a slight chance of rain with the frontal passage late Friday or Saturday, the overall pattern leans towards plenty of sunshine and much cooler temperatures. Upper-level winds are expected to become northwesterly over the region and this will help another cold front reach the coast by the middle of next week, keeping fall-like conditions in place.
Below is the projected weather map for Saturday showing high pressure moving into the region behind the cold front. Also, is a projected Monday weather map showing a reinforcing surge of cool, dry air moving south through the Plains and finally, is the precipitation outlook through mid-November, not surprisingly showing drier than normal conditions for that time frame (all maps courtesy of the Climate Prediction Center):
