Will Hurricane Bertha affect the U.S.?

I've had several people ask me if Hurricane Bertha would either be a threat to our area or, more likely, impact those living on the East Coast. Fortunately, the answer seems to be that the hurricane will neither be a threat to us or to those living along the Atlantic Coast. It seems that a weakness in the high pressure system between Florida and the central Atlantic should help to steer the system towards the north. On the latest expected path, however, Bermuda may have something to worry about!

At any rate, I am attaching the latest "model array" to this blog. Often called a "spagetti array", for obvious reasons, this graphic shows where all the various models are projecting the path of the storm. Of course, none of the models are perfect by any means so it is best to rely upon the guidance of the National Hurricane Center when making any personal decisions regarding a storm. Still, this type of array does present a good picture of where a storm is likely to go. Model array coutesy of South Florida Water Management District.
