Tropical Storm Bertha has formed in the far eastern Atlantic near 13.3 N and 24.7 W. The storm is moving west-northwest at 14-mph. Top sustained winds were 40-mph and lowest pressure was 1006 MB (29.71"). The good news is that this system is expected to stay far from the Gulf of Mexico and pose no threat to our area (see graphic projection below, courtesy of the University of Hawaii):

Closer to home, a tropical wave in the far eastern Caribbean is causing gusty winds and strong thunderstorms across the region. Luckily, upper-level winds remain unfavorable for development of this system. In the long-term, moisture from this system is expected to work its way into the Gulf and may help to enhance our rainfall prospects next week.
