Thanks, again, Christine. We had received word of the Tremont's postponed re-opening late last night. I very much appreciate finding your verification of that information. We are saddened to realize just how badly damaged these properties must be to require such lengthy renovations. Our hearts are with our friends there on the island.

Thank you, Christine, for a wonderful ongoing blog, and for this post in particular. As a "wannabe" Galvestonian, I have perused the internet over the last couple of weeks for news of my beloved island. I am thrilled to have found this site, and cannot thank you enough for being willing to keep your readers up-to-date on the progress of the recovery of the Mitchell properties.

I'd like very much to have your blessing on including your reports (fully credited, of course) on my own blog, The Daily KRuMB. My husband and I are part of a large group of friends who travel to Galveston every December and enjoy a Victorian weekend, staying at the Tremont and holding our own Gingerbread Ball there in the hotel. I've tried to keep our blog readers up-to-date on Galveston news, and your information can be a good part of that process, if you don't mind.

Members only evening is Friday October 3, then open to the public on Saturday and Sunday. You can join "Friends" at the door on Friday. There will be an amazing array of books, including many rare and out of print, plus current best sellers, etc.

The Hotel Galvez is my favorite hotel on the Island. My oldest brother worked there in the 1980's and I worked in sales there in the early 1990's before the restoration. The Mitchells have done a wonderful job restoring the hotel to its former grandeur. I encourage you to make a visit and ask the concierge for a tour.

My late wife used to work the banquet room before we got married (probably early 70's). She always used to talk about the Galvez. It brought fond memories to her over the years.
