GALVESTON.COM: Bar Trash

A blog about Galveston Island nightlife, from someone who knows!
  • Murphy's, between the strips!!!!

So this past Saturday some friends and I decided to venture off the beaten path to Murphy's, once known as Foam then famous Connley's and now Murphy's taking new ownership every time, located between Postoffice st. and the Strand.  Upon walking into Murphy’s you will encounter a 350 lb. door man making you feel safe all night long.  Murphy's is a nice size bar Separated by French doors, giving it an upper and lower level.  The upper level consists of two pool tables a foosball table and a jukebox, and the lower level consisting of darts and a bit more seating.  Murphy's serves food as well giving it the pub feel that you expect walking through the door.  This is a place where you can drink as many pints of beer as you please and be loud as you want without looking like an idiot.  This is the college hangout every Wednesday night and is packed on Saturdays as well.  If you prefer a little more laid back pub feel stay in the downstairs area in tends to be pretty quiet down there allowing people to actually talk, if you’re looking to have a blarney blast drunk fest definitely stay in the upper part. Raise your glasses to the Irish knock em’ back and enjoy.  BT (bar trash)

  • Headed out West

My next venture took me to Buck's West, and for those of you who don't know there used to be a Buck's Bar above Yaga's on Strand that was the happening country bar on the island until Hurricane Rita came through and demolished it.  If you’re looking for that country bar feel this is the place to go.  Now it is a bit of a drive out to the West End of the island (Jamaica Beach).  It's the only place on the island that you can go and see people wearing cowboy hats, wrangler's, and shitkickers (for you out of towners that would be cowboy boots.  Buck's west is 2 stories with a pool table and other games upstairs and down stairs with a fairly nice bar and have bands a couple nights a week.  Definitely a good place to feel welcome at to just sit back and relax and enjoy your beer.  This is a full service bar so no matter what your taste they've got it.  Bartenders are kickass too.  not the busiest place n the island, but if your looking to get away from the Downtown area and feel like your actually on vacation or feel like your at your hometown bar Buck's West is the place to be.  So put your shitkickers on and yee ha yall!!!!!!!!!!

  • 21 always a good start!!!

So my first venture took to good ol' 21, last night was definitely not there busiest night, but that is what I love about 21.   No matter how packed or unpacked they are you know you can always have a good time. The Line Up was playing as always on a Thursday night, great people and band by the way, crowd mixed as always.  Beautiful young ladies to rich old men.  If you’re looking for a great Martini or a really strong Jack and coke it's where you want to be.  21 is the one place no matter what your dancing skills are, from a freak on the floor to mom and dad trying to bust a beat, you always look good.  The bartenders some very good friends of mine are quick and efficient and always show you a good time.  Thanks Ben da la looch, John, Tom, and Barry you guys always make it a great experience.  Any who yall 21 from young to old always a great place to have a good time.  I recommend 21 on a Thursday if it is dead everywhere else, but highly recommend on a Friday or Saturday. Have a Trashy weekend yall!!!!!!!!!!!
